The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four-year course, and is available on both a full time and part time basis.

The course provides initial teacher education for people who wish to work in secondary years (Years 7-12) school classroom settings, with a Humanities focus. It contains four strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experiences.

Students in the course complete a major of 8 units in a Humanities field and a minor of 4 units in a second area.

The maximum time allowed for the completion of the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is 10 years. Extensions beyond this time may be approved where extenuating circumstances exist.

Teacher – Secondary Years (Years 7-12) in the nominated teaching areas.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) consists of 4 strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content, and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experience.

As part of their Discipline Content studies, students complete a major of 8 units in a Humanities teaching area and a minor of 4 units in another teaching area.

The Professional Experience Program (PEP) is a school-based program in which students complete 80 days of practicum and 30+ days of internship, which provides for the number of days of supervised experience required by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) for registration. This consists of 4 PEP blocks, each of 4 weeks in duration, with a full day orientation prior to the block, and an internship block, of at least 6 weeks, with a full day orientation prior to the internship. Students undertake their PEP placements in a range of schools with which CHC has established partnerships over many years. These are predominantly Christian schools in south-east Queensland. Students are required to hold a valid Blue Card in order to engage in PEP.
